2021 Buick Enclave trim levels
Buick has positioned itself as an affordable luxury brand and that is precisely what the 2021 Buick Enclave embodies. Far less pricy than its big-name competitors such as the Audi Q7, the Enclave offers exceptional value for money and delights with every chance it gets.
The Enclave comes in four different trims, the Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Avenir, with the first two addressed more to budget-conscious prospective buyers and the last two to luxury seekers.
Before we get into the details of every trim, let’s first take a look at what they have in common.
The exterior aesthetic of the mid-size three-row SUV can only be described as smooth, with fluid lines and a figure with curves in all the right places, the 2021 Enclave looks far more expensive than it is.
Under the hood, all four trims get powered by the same tried-and-true engine, a 3.6-liter V-6 that can churn out 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is coupled with a responsive 9-speed automatic and together they make the Enclave handle like a dream both inside the city and on the highway.
Now on to the trims!
1. The 2021 Buick Enclave Preferred
Enclave’s base model is dubbed Preferred and judging by the long list of standard features it’s anything but basic.
The 2021 Buick Preferred comes with Buick’s Infotainment System with an 8-in. color touch, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability, a digital information center, keyless open and start, remote start, USB ports, tri-zone automatic climate control, 18-in. painted aluminum wheels, a hands-free power programmable liftgate, heated power outside mirrors, LED headlamps and daytime running lamps, the StabiliTrak® electronic stability control, Rear park assist, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, front bucket, heated seats, second-row captain's chairs, an eight-way power driver seat, and third row 60/40 split flat-folding, three-passenger bench seating.
For a starting price of a little over $40k, few other luxury crossovers can compete on value for money.
2. The 2021 Buick Enclave Essence
A step up is the Buick Essence, more of an intermediary trim until we reach full-on luxury territory with the Premium and Avenir trims.
Under the Essence, you get Preferred's full list of features plus perks such as leather-appointed first and second-row seating, an upgraded HD rear vision camera, and a SiriusXM® with 360L trial subscription. What makes the Essence worth the $2,000 premium, though are the two added active safety features – the Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, plus the Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Considering the small price difference and the significant added safety tech, we see most retail buyers choosing the Essence over the Preferred.
3. The 2021 Buick Enclave Premium
This is where the Enclave really starts getting serious as the Premium is the first trim that crosses the line between needs and wants. Do you actually need a state-of-the-art Bose® premium 10-speaker audio system, power-folding third-row seats, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain's chairs, Forward Collision Alert, the Buick Driver Confidence Plus Package, an HD Radio, plus heated power-folding outside rearview mirrors? No, you don’t need them. But you want them!
And with the Buick Premium, you'll get them all, plus everything you'd get from the Essence trim.
4. The 2021 Buick Enclave Avenir
With a demeanor that screams sophistication and luxury, the Enclave Avenir is a trim meant to delight its future owners and nothing else. No “satisfactory” features permitted as you’ll get the entire features list of the Premium trim plus high-end perks such as a power dual moonroof with fixed rear skylight, a wireless smartphone charging station, HD Surround Vision and a rear camera mirror, an upgraded version of the Buick Infotainment System that also includes navigation, plus a real wood-accented steering wheel.
On top of all these luxury perks, the Avenir comes with a distinctive look given by the exclusive 20-inch aluminum wheels with Pearl Nickel finish, unique Chestnut or Ebony interior color, stitching, and piping, plus a signature grille and luxury styling.
With its list of standard features and premium interior and exterior aesthetic, the 2021 Buick Avenir can stand toe to toe with models almost twice its price tag.
