The GMC Sierra HD Trucks
Comparing the modern pickup truck to those of just 10-15 years ago is like comparing the smartphone with their landline predecessors. In the past, both the landline phone and the pickup were built with a single action in mind. They had one job which they carried out diligently, but other than that, they were absolutely useless.
Utilitarian objects that in recent years went far past their initial purpose to become delightful companions of our everyday life.
One of the best examples of how far pickup trucks have come is GMC’s Sierra HD line. Made up of the 2500 and 3500 models, the company managed to blend brutish force perfectly, how else would you call the Duramax 6.6-liter V8 that can churn out as much as 445 hp and 910 pound-feet of torque, with upscale luxury.
The 2020 Sierra lineup also benefited from an overhaul based on customer feedback that demanded even roomier vehicles and a work-oriented approach.
GMC delivered, and then some.
Before we get into details for every trim level, it’s worth mentioning that there are also three body styles to choose from – the regular, double, and crew cab – plus two bed lengths, one a 6-feet-7 inches and the other an 8-feet-2 inches.
Five trim levels ranging from the purely spartan workhorse to the downright opulent, and we’re off with the base model.
Built to get the job done and little else, the base model still comes equipped with a rearview camera, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, part of an infotainment system that has both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Only manual locks and windows and a simple single-zone climate control feature, though.
One step up is the SLE trim level that adds quite a few things on top of the ones the base model comes equipped with. Most notably are the cruise control, the power windows, remote key entry, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot option, and the bigger 8.0-inch touchscreen instead of the 7.0-inch one.
With the middle trim level – SLT – the GMC Sierra starts to enter the realm of modern pickup trucks as ordering this rendition will get you everything included by the previous two plus a ten-way power front set of seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, SiriusXM, HD radio, a heated steering wheel, remote start capability, and even voice activation of selected functions.
The top two trim levels are borderline luxury models, with the Denali actually crossing over. The AT4 and Denali incorporate all previous perks to which they add leather upholstery, heated front, and back seats, cooled front seats, the remarkably good Pro Grade Trailing system with several cameras that’s sure to become a class benchmark, and an available sunroof.
The Denali goes even further to offer its drivers a 7-speaker BOSE audio system, navigation, and wireless charging capability.
A list of features able to satisfy even the most fickle crossover prospective buyer, and that’s a tall order to fill!
