The 2020 Chevrolet Malibu
Few cars bear better names than the Malibu. Just hearing it makes prospective buyers feel good, relaxed, almost stress-free.
But then the name transcends onto the car, bestowing upon it the same positive vibe. It's aesthetic, it's interior look and feel, and the joy of driving it around town and on the open road, they all scream Malibu.
The mid-sized sedan sports a modern look and seems ready for anything you throw at it, mainly due to its sleek exterior lines and the sporty front grille. Especially good-looking if you order it in red, the Malibu was built for comfort but it handles extremely well with very direct and sharp steering.
Enough power for a car twice its size
Under the hood, the Malibu can come with one in two available powertrains. First, is the standard 1.5-liter turbo-4 that will produce 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that simulates shifts to make the experience feel natural.
The upgrade is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 capable of belting out 250 horsepower which is insane for a sedan. It's available on the Malibu Premier trim and comes with a highly-responsive 9-speed automatic.
Malibu's interior look and feel don't reflect its price tag but that of a luxury crossover.
With plenty of room for comfort, nothing but soft-touch materials all-round, and a long list of standard features, passengers and future owners will find a Malibu ride delightful be in town or on long commutes.
The basic Malibu comes equipped with an 8.0-inch color touch, both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth audio streaming, and an optional 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot for a monthly fee.
Most buyers will probably spring for the LT trim that adds 17-inch alloy wheels, acoustic glass, a dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and rear climate vents.
The reason why many buyers will go for s sedan over a crossover, though, is fuel economy. And with impressive figures such as Malibu's 29 mpg inside the city, 36 on the highway ad a combined 32, it's no wonder.
